Environment relaciona cuatro ideas esenciales en la consideración social y ecológica del medio, para descubrir nuevos modos de proyectar y habitar la arquitectura. Bajo el concepto de “medio” (environment), la generación de artistas y arquitectos de los años sesenta del siglo XX aludía a un entorno que debía servir a las necesidades vitales del individuo y responder a las recientes preocupaciones ecosistémicas. Desde entonces, el aparato conformado por la atención al territorio, las técnicas de exploración del paisaje, los nuevos canales de información y el potencial colectivo se han constituido como las vías de trabajo más fructíferas hacia un hábitat sostenible.
En forma de viaje atemporal, se invita al lector a una inmersión para la alianza por el medio ambiente a través de un conjunto de prácticas de dicho laboratorio experimental, desde el contexto estadounidense con las teorías de György Kepes, Kevin Lynch, Stewart Brand o R. Buckminster Fuller y los trabajos de Robert Smithson, Gordon Matta-Clark, Reyner Banham y Juan Navarro Baldeweg, hasta la expansión a nivel global con el alcance especulativo del momento actual. Estos relatos en curso, tan contemporáneos hoy como ya lo fueron cincuenta años atrás en el contexto contracultural más revolucionario, proporcionan un campo de innovación colectiva para la recuperación del planeta.

Environment: the construction of the habitat
Environment relates four essential ideas in the social and ecological consideration of the surroundings, to discover new ways of projecting and inhabiting architecture. Under the concept of “environment”, the generation of artists and architects of the 1960s alluded to an habitat that should serve the vital needs of the individual and respond to recent ecosystem concerns. Since then, the apparatus formed by attention to the territory, the techniques of exploration of the landscape, the new channels of information and the collective potential has constituted the most fruitful ways of working towards a sustainable habitat.
